Vintage Rusted Pocket Knife - Restoration - WorkshopDC
Hi guys! How are you doing? Hope well!
In today video i restore a vintage Rusted pocket Knife.
I think this Knife was homemade but i'm not a 100% sure about it.
There was a logo with the letters MS on the blade and unfortunately i did not find any information about it, but was a blade with a very good quality.
So, i start showing you the details on the pocket knife, it was with some rust and a crack on the wood case.
To disassemble i used a hammer and a pin remover (i don't know the rigth name of this tool), and a drill vise.
The disassemble was kinda easy but i need some attention to do not break any part.
After this process i start removing all the rust with vinegar, worked very well.
To make the the surface super clean from any residue of oil i used a strong degreaser and brushed the parts in the bench grinder.
The blade was with a lot of marks of rust, so i sand it away with a sandpaper 120G to 600G, i also sanded the other parts, the same process.
Off camera i cleaned all parts, and after that i make a nickel plate on the parts, the original plate was zinc but i didn't have this kind of bath yet.
With the nickel plate ready i begin polish all parts.
To the brass parts i use a different method to polish, electropolishing with acid, but work better with copper.
Now i star to restore the wood cases, first i glued the crack with super glue and used a wood clamp to not break the case, after that i sand the cases with sandpaper 220G to 600G.
And All ready to assemble, i used contact glue to a strong hold, put all the brass pins in the right places and hammered, off camera i file and sand them to make all smooth.
After the Knife assemble, i polish again, and star to sharpen the Blade.
I make a little test to see if it was really shartpened.
And all Done!
A perfect restoration if i can say that.
