Olive York nee Turner visit back home to London in 1971

My mother, Olive York (nee Turner), returned to her hometown London for three months in 1971. It was her first visit since migrating to Melbourne in 1954.

This footage was taken outside the cottage at 206 Iverson Road, West Hampstead, where she grew up, and also in the garden of her brother Gus' house, 23 Charlgrove Avenue, Morden, Surrey.

During the 1990s, I recorded an oral history interview with my mother for the National Library of Australia. I have overlayed an excerpt, where she talks about her return to London in 1971, over the brief footage.
Family members in the footage include Olive, Gus Turner (her brother) and his wife Inez (nee Jones), Roger (nephew) and Sandra Turner, Mike (nephew) and Sue Turner, baby Penny Turner and a brief glimpse of camera-shy Vida Turner, Olive's sister.

My mother loved the old Flanagan & Allan song, 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner; hence my attempted rendition of it toward the end.
