Fatal Shark Attack Despite Shark Repellent Device

In 2002, 23-year-old Australian fisherman and diver Paul Buckland, joined by 24-year-old Shannon Jenson, embarked on a fateful diving expedition near Port Lincoln. Disregarding local fishermen's warnings, they relied on their experience and a shark repellent device. As Shannon explored for scallops, a massive great white shark approached, unswayed by the repellent. It attacked Paul relentlessly.

Shannon rushed to help, ultimately freeing Paul by ramming the boat into the shark. Tragically, Paul succumbed to severe injuries and blood loss despite their efforts. This incident shattered confidence in shark repellents, as Paul became one of the first shark attack fatalities while wearing such a device.
