Advanced DNA Helps Crack a 32-Year-Old Cold Case of Susan Nagersmith

For over three decades, the 1990 murder of Susan Nagersmith remained an unsolved mystery that haunted the small town of Wildwood, New Jersey. The lively 23-year-old had been looking forward to a fun Memorial Day trip to the beach with close friends until tragedy struck. On May 27th, her body was found in a horrific state, yet her killer eluded capture.

As months turned to years and the case grew colder without answers, it seemed Susan's loved ones may never see justice. But the dedicated cold case unit at Wildwood Police Department refused to give up hope, even as new generations joined the force. Then in 2022, revolutionary new DNA techniques analyzing decades-old evidence helped crack the case wide open. Advanced genetic genealogy provided the break needed to identify Susan's alleged killer - Jerry Rosado.
