HIGH BAR BACK SQUAT | LAURIE CHRISTINE KING

In a High Bar Back Squat, the barbell rests on top of the traps and squatting position tends to be little more upright and vertical (in comparison to Low Bar Back Squatting). High Bar is often the preferred squat preference among bodybuilders, Olympic Weightlifters, and CrossFitters. It will also have the most transfer and carryover to the snatch / clean & jerk.

If you're having difficulty squatting to/below parallel, you might need to spend time working on your ankle and hip mobility. If struggling with tight hips and/or glutes, spending time in Couch & Pigeon Stretch will help you get loose in no time.

For tight ankles, I love using a weighted object like a KB or DB on top of the knee, and then spending time driving the knee over the toes. Lastly, you can also try elevating your heels when squatting to see if it might provide better depth.

Consider playing around with how wide feet are when you squat as well - most people seem to feel best with feet just outside the shoulders or so. Play around with the angle of your feet as well, as they’re likely going to need to be slightly rotated out.
