The APOSTROPHE is used in English punctuation to show possession (ownership), contractions (combined words), or plurals of letters. There are 3 rules that govern the use of the APOSTROPHE:
- to show possession or ownership
- to form contractions like don't, can't, she's, it's (use in informal writing but not recommended for formal writing)
- to form the plurals of numbers and letters such as 4's or to dot your i's and t's.
