Hi, my name is Lydia, and my son’s browsing history led me to a sketchy motel in the middle of nowhere.

I’m a single mom. My son, Elliot, has always been the light of my life. From the moment he was born, I knew he was special. I worked so hard to make sure he had a happy, safe life, and for years, we were best friends.

But things started changing when he turned 16. He used to stay in and eat ice cream and watch TV with me every night, and suddenly, he was out every single night. He seemed irritable, and when he did stay home, I could hear him staying up all hours of the night talking to people on the phone.

His total 180 in attitude freaked me out. Was my son doing drugs? Was he drinking? Was he depressed? I told him I noticed he was acting different, and before I could say anything else, he stormed up to his room.

That’s when I started doing things I’m not proud of. When he was on the phone, I would lean against the door and listen, trying to hear what was being said, but I never learned anything interesting.

I thought it was strange, and I knew he wouldn’t tell me, so I took things a step further...
