Hey guys, my name is Brodie and I had a strange dead man haunting me for 5 years straight.

So, it all started when I was 11 years old. I was a gloomy, sad little boy who mostly sat at home and played video games. I didn’t talk with other kids. In fact, I didn’t want to. I was pretty miserable, but had no idea how to get out of this slump until this one crucial day when I had a bit of wisdom thrust upon me.

It was Saturday and my mom was really fed up with me staying at home, so she forced me to go with her to the funeral of a friend of hers that I didn’t know. A strange way to bond with your kid, no doubt, but it actually changed my life. When we got there, I stayed in a corner waiting for the funeral to end. In the middle of it, an older man approached me. He was about my mom’s age and looked miserable. The man looked at me, his eyes filled with wisdom, and said: “Enjoy your life, boy. Be happy, because time flies. Look at me now, I didn’t enjoy mine.” I remember getting chills with every word he said. He patted me on my head and left the room. It was like he was never there. Even the people who were standing next to me didn’t bat an eye. I tried getting the man out of my head, the ceremony ended, and I headed for the sandwiches while my mom was hugging every single person there as if she was personally responsible for the man dying. About three eternities and a dozen sandwiches later, it looked like she was ready to leave. I approached her, but she still had one mission left for me. I, too, had to say goodbye to her dead friend. I looked over at the open casket and this was something I REALLY didn’t expect. I swear to god, I was looking at the same man that had just talked to me when I was in the corner. I was freaking out. He had the same eyebrows and hair…

The whole ride home, my mom was pleasantly surprised at how polite I was when in reality, I was shaken to my core. As it was already noon, I went straight to my room and laid on the bed. I kept seeing the man’s face in front of me and these words “enjoy your life” kept repeating over and over again. I fell asleep and was woken up by the smell of bacon & eggs. I went downstairs and said good morning to my mother. She was confused by my demeanor... to this day, she says that it looked like I had changed overnight. When in reality, I just felt that, if a frickin’ ghost is telling you to get your life together, you do it. So I vowed to get out more.
