Welcome Center Permit & Cybertruck Range Extender Cancelled! 9 May 2025 Giga Texas Update (07:00 AM)

Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and in 2025, the Next Generation Car(s), Cybercab & the Optimus Robot!

Early morning flight in beautiful conditions because I had a follow-up Tesla event later in the morning I had to get to and one I think you might find interesting once I’m able to complete the video and have permission to publish!

In the video introduction, I talk about the recent decision by Tesla to discontinue the Cybertruck range extender battery and refund customers who ordered it. We have been seeing some long delays with the range extender and then last month Tesla removed it from the design studio, so something was obviously going on.

Just yesterday, Telsa sent out notifications that this product had indeed been cancelled, and full refunds were being sent to customers who placed the order for one of these battery packs.

Why this has happened is hard to say for sure, but I think the idea of the range extender was not really a viable one and had a lot of engineering work left to be completed before it was something that could be installed in customer cars. I also know this was not a popular stop gap design to try and mitigate the lower range numbers the Cybertruck cam e out with as opposed to the promised range numbers when it was first unveiled almost 5 years ago.

I think instead, Tesla is just going to focus on five key areas of battery and pack design to try and increase the energy density and thus increase mileage. How this will eventually work out is something to watch.

I also show a short clip of 200+ exotic cars with helicopter escorts driving past Giga Texas on SH-130 on their way to the Circuit of the Americas. This was part of the Tour Texas event, and the video clip was posted on X by the Exotic Car Club. I thought it was a unique opportunity to highlight Giga Texas, so I decided to share it with you in my intro!

There was a lot of activity today around the site as far as construction, and I reveal several permits i(including one I’ve been looking for pertaining to the new welcome center construction) in the main video along with my normal narration, so make sure you watch it all the way through!
