How To Own A Super Car For Free (Step By Step Guide) - With The Top 5 To Own
People dream of driving an exotic car, or a high-end sports car. But never buy one because they deem it too expensive. However, you can time it right and lose no money!
I've owned a Porsche turbo, Porsche gt3, and currently a Porsche Carrera s. And it is like I'm driving them for free. My 2013 911 Carrera S Manual has almost 50K miles. I bought it last year for 70K with a 2-year unlimited mile bumper to bumper warranty. I'll be selling in about 6 months. I'll sell it for right around 65K. My Porsches have been cheaper for me to own than any other vehicle I’ve owned. And I have owned a lot of other vehicles.
While yes cars new cars lose 20% of the value within the first year, and 40% over the next four years. Some cars are exceptions to this rule. Such as very rare limited number cars, such as a GT2 RS, Ferrari Challenge, Ford GTs, Etc. However all of those commands a 6 figure price tag. If you can afford those great. However, we are looking at a lot of cheaper cars.
Let's look at how to find an exotic sports car for a good price, and not lose money when you resell it.
How To Pick A Car
We are looking for cars 4-6 years old that have already lost 50 or 60% of there value and aren’t going to lose much more. Once they hit a certain level they don't lose any more value. We are looking for cars to own for a few years and then turn around and sell.
An example of this is the Audi R8. You never see them under 50K. You can see that the 2008 R8 when it came out was around 116 - 125K. That's about a 60% drop.
Another example is a 2007 Porsche turbo there are going anywhere from 50K and up. Who knew you could drive a Porsche Turbo from less than 50K.
Get a PPI from the dealer. Also, negotiate a warranty if you are really afraid of it breaking. However, you can look at the CPOs and find a great deal there which will come with a warranty.
If the car you are buying doesn’t have a warranty. You will want to choose a car with low/cheap maintenance. So stay away from Ferrari, Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes, Mclaren. These can all get expensive out of warranty. However, Porsche, Acura, Honda, Lotus all are affordable to maintain and have few problems.
I recommend financing the car at a low rate, a lot of times you can get a car loan now for 5% or less. As the market has historically done better than this. Also since the idea is to own the car for only a short amount of time, why pull your cash out of other investments.?
