☠️⚠️BE CAREFUL doing THIS in Italy ❌😲

SHOULD or SHOULDN’T you mop up that leftover sauce on your plate?
Well, it depends!

In Italian, using a piece of bread to mop any remaining sauce on your plate is called “fare la scarpetta” (literally ‘making a little shoe’) because just like our show can pick up all sorts of things, this is how you collect that delicious leftover sauce that nonna made.

Attenzione! While it CAN be considered a sign of appreciation of the food, you should avoid it when you are with diners you don’t know really well. They might think you lack good manners or that you haven’t eaten for days!

So, remember. It’s ok to DO IT in a casual restaurant or with friends! BUT DON’T DO IT in a fancy restaurant or with strangers! Still in doubt? Follow the lead of others around you!

If you’re cooking at home, don’t forget to “fare la scarpetta” in your saucepan. No one will ever know!
