“Turf Toe Rehab”

🦶 Turf toe can be a challenging condition to treat, especially when it’s left untreated and become chronic. Turf toe injuries occurs when the joint of the big toe get forced into hyperextension. This typically happens to football players when someone falls on their foot forcing the heel to drive forward over a planted first big toe. This motion typically injuries the joint capsule and ligaments on the bottom side of the foot.

🔥 Here is a series of exercises I like to use to treat turf toe. The goal is to strengthen the big toe muscles around the joint in addition to gradually applying more and more loads to the big toe in a hyper-extended position.

⏰ The goal is to slowly work into a more hyper-extended position with time, and slowly increase how much weight/pressure is placed on the toe in this position as well.

📝 This WILL cause some discomfort. A general rule of thumb is that soreness/stiffness shouldn’t last more than 24 hours and return to baseline. Discomfort should be “acceptable”. Apply loads below your threshold and watch your body respond :)
