Mother-daughter duo breaks stereotypes about women in firefighting

acqueline thought she was too old to become a firefighter. People questioned Jalisa because she was a woman. So they trained together until they became the one of the department’s few mother-daughter teams in Washington, D.C.

Jacqueline has always been drawn to careers where she could help people, like working as an EMT. She never thought her daughter Jalisa would follow in her footsteps. When Jalisa decided to become a firefighter, it was the encouragement Jacqueline needed to take the next step in her own career.

Today, the pair works in Washington D.C.’s Fire and EMS department, breaking stereotypes for other women working in the male-dominated industry.
