DIY Loft Conversion - CHEER YOURSELF UP - Doors and Paint - Turning a Shed into a Palace

We are getting to the stage in the DIY Loft Conversion where the end is starting to be in sight. First I mount 3 doors - two loft hatches and then bathroom door. First I have to cut down the door to size. I then show you as I mount the door furniture -handle, hinges and get it into the frame. In the mean-time I make a couple of loft hatches.

This work has two benefits. On his that it makes the place look like progress is being made. The other is that it gets materials out of the way and where they should be. Finally it allows me to put away items into the loft spaces, making the room feel tidier.

Once I have space enough in the loft, a quick tidy up and and some dust sheets and I'm ready to paint....the job for day two.

Painting the walls and ceilings of the loft is hard graft but very very rewarding. I use tough washable paint for robustness and a long lasting finish. After the scratch coat it goes on pretty well and I maybe could have got away with one coat but experience tells me to just slap on a second coat, which is what I do.

Here are some maths - 12.5 litres and £4/litre so £50 in paint. This covered about 70m2 (700ft2) of area and all in took me 5 hard hours. It is Wickes own durable paint, pure brilliant white " £20 per 5l.

The room is transformed. It is bright, seems bigger and clean. Now I can finish the 2nd fix - socket fronts, lights, maybe then think about trim like skirting and architrave....and gloss the doors. Then its bathroom time.
