DIY LOFT CONVERSION En-Suite READY for PLASTERING - Structure, Plumbing, Electrics & Filth. 3D Tour!

The DIY loft conversion is coming along and I now start on the En-Suite.

I begin by sharing our 'vision' for the loft room with a 3D virtual fly-through of our plans. We used Love Home 3D design software which cost £20 but had the best functionality and ease of use of the design packages we found. It renders too, as you see in the diagram and really helped us visualise the interior finishing in particular.

I then take you through the steps from unfinished room through to it being ready for the plasterer.

The stud wall to the bathroom was already in but only finished on one side, the bedroom side. The bathroom area had become the dumping ground for tools, scraps, rubbish etc etc as the other areas of the loft conversion had been cleared for when they were plastered. This gave me the opportunity to install buried services easily to both the bedroom side and prepare for the bathroom. It's all a huge jigsaw really....

I start with provisioning services such as plumbing, waste water, electric points and insulation. Watch as I then add plywood walls for future strength which means at any time I can hang shelves, kooks, radiators without fear of the plasterboard giving way. I'm then able plasterboard and finally build and fit the shower ventilation and plumbing so that I can box in and be ready for plastering.

It's a lot of work. What you see is about 5 days work for me on my own. The environment is also really dusty, so wearing a mask is a must. The plasterboard in particular sheds dust and it gets in your eyes and can burn your skin too, so take care.

This is the last room to be completed in the loft and we have been going for 1 year so far. Next time you will see me start to paint and finish...and then its time for the shower tray and floor prep, plus the final stud wall to cover up that awful brickwork.
