Mexican GP Preview & Predictions | F1
It's F1 Mexican GP weekend and this our snapshot of the weekend's talking points and predictions.
Will Red Bull be as strong as everyone expects them to be? Will Max Verstappen extend his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton? And will Sergio Perez take a first ever podium on home soil.
Let us know your predictions for the weekend in the comments!
Talking points
- Red Bull has always gone well in Mexico due to the high altitude of the circuit. Despite the long straight, it's a high downforce circuit, as the air is thinner, making the engine's hungrier for air. This has always benefitted Red Bull, when they were with Renault and now Honda, while the Mercedes Turbo has always been slightly larger and been at a disadvantage.
- Mercedes do expect to be more competitive this year, with Valterri Bottas hinting before the race at some optimisations should should help them.
- Ferrari's poles in Monaco and Baku should set them up well for a good race here too. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have both been confident in outscoring McLaren - and maybe even taking the fight to the top two this weekend.
- Alpha Tauri have been closing the gap to Alpine in the constructors championship. More points here would help cut that gap down further.
- Williams and Aston Martin could struggle, especially if the Mercedes engine has some disadvantage compared to the others - but that remains to be seen.
