How to Say @ in Italian 🇮🇹🐌
Did you know the @ symbol comes from Italy?🇮🇹🐌 (Either Venice or Florence?)
Need to share your email address? What if I told you that the @ symbol originated in Italy?
During the Middle Ages, merchants from Florence and Venice traded amphoras of various products, such as wine and salt, using @ as a unit of measurement. In Venetian, the symbol was interpreted to mean amphora (anfora), a unit of weight and volume based upon the capacity of the standard amphora jar since the 6th century.
With the discovery of the Americas and the unprecedented scale of trade, helped spread the @ symbol across the world.
In today’s Italian @ is called “chiocciola” which literally means ‘snail’ and it’s used when reading out an email address!
