What College Soccer Coaches Are Actually Watching at Showcases

What do college soccer coaches look for at showcases and ID camps? It's not body fat percentage or visible leanness. The performance metrics that drive recruiting decisions are sprint speed, repeated sprint ability, technical execution under fatigue, decision-making, and availability over the course of a season.

The 80th minute is one of the most important windows at any showcase event as that’s when fatigue separates the well-fueled from the under-fueled. Athletes who have restricted food in the weeks leading up to a showcase to try to look leaner are trading late-game performance for aesthetics before the event. No published research supports the idea that body fat percentage or visible leanness predicts selection outcomes over performance metrics in soccer.

Fuel for what matters…performance. The 80th minute is where it shows.
