Sea Kayaking Shetland Series Day 3: Ronas Voe & Eshaness to Tangwick
Sea Kayaking Shetland Series
Day 3: Ronas Voe & Eshaness to Tangwick
More fabulous Sea Kayaking in great conditions, Shetland just keeps giving.
Starting from the Blade in Ronas Voe we worked our way through the stunning red granite features along the coastline towards the "Father" the large headland that dominates the Northwestern end of Ronas Voe. Continuing down the west side in an interesting swell towards Ockran Head paddling through magnificent arches, caves, Geo's and gullies. Then we headed out to the Ossa's, Muckle Ossa with its huge natural arch, Little Ossa and Fladda, experiencing excellent conditions in the rebound on the West side.
Heading south we returned towards South Head and Stanshi Head with another impressive stretch of coastline along the "Villans of Hamnovoe" and on, to the "Villans of Ure on Eshaness.
All of the Eshaness peninsular has truly magnificent kayaking features with long subterranean passages, arches, deep caves systems, Geo's and gullies to paddle through. Notably The Holes of Scraada, with its long subterranean tunnel with a beach and waterfall right at the back as the water drains out from the loch of Houlland. Calders Geo and cave system was equally impressive with its many passageways.
The Souther coastline was fabulous too as we passed the Bruddans., Isles of Stenness and rounding Utstabi point we were rewarded with the spectacular view of the Dore Holm (Drinking Horse, locally) from there we continued East to our finish point at Tangwick.
