THE WILDHEARTS - TURNING AMERICAN - GUITAR PLAYTHROUGH

GUITAR PLAYTHROUGH - TURNING AMERICAN - THE WiLDHEARTS

Right back to the beginning on this one.

The first track from the first EP - Mondo Akimbo a GoGo and it's an absolute riff fest.

While definitely sounding like older material from the band, there is a certain crossover from the early demos to the blueprint for the 'heavy as f**k cheap trick meets metallica' blueprint that made the band stand out so incredibly in those early days. It has that late 80's - early 90's production that to me, sounds incredible.

Ginger and CJ's vocals having a rawness, an urgency and a 20 regal feel that connected with a young Dev instantly. I liked the attitude of grunge but I found the genre a little tiresome and lacking energy for my tastes and hair metal lacked the balls to make me want to smash things to pieces and these guys delivered exactly what I needed, when I needed it most.

And what a tricky song to play, holy god damn.

To get the sound I used the crunch channel on my DSL with everything set to max and let my humbuckers do the rest, I think it sits pretty well and I cannot afford a JCM 800 which is what I believe the lads were using at this time.

E flat all the way with the guitars, just play lighter when you need to clean it up a bit and dig in when you need more grit.

The way it should be.

Right I'm getting back to my recording sessions, hope you enjoy this playthrough as much as I did, I think I'll just carry on chronologically from here.

Dev x
