This tiara was first owned by grand duchess vladamir, also known as maria pavlovna of russia.During the russian revolution , the grand duchess fled to at petersberg, leavingher jewellery behind.later the piece was returned backto her by a british intelligent agent, who smuggled it.following the death ofthe grandduchess, the tiara was passed down to her daughter princess nicholas of greece.She later sold off the tiara due to some financial issues.it was bought by queen marry of the united kingdom, who added 15 of her cambridge emeralds to the tiara.it was later inherited by queen elizabeth ll.
