MONACO OCEAN TIARA

In 2011, Prince Albert of Monaco, married the South African born
olympic swimmer Charlene Lynette Wittstock. As soon as the engagement was announced, every one speculated that the newprincess would wear a tiarafrom her late mother in law Grace Kelly's jewellery collection. But Prince Albert wanted his new brideto have a brand new tiara, and commisioned Van Cleef and Arpels to design a new tiara. As Charlene was an Olympic swimmer, the jewellers created a tiara with an aquatic motif using diamonds and three different shades of sapphires. The saphires were arranged in such a way to repsrent ‘evoking the world’s different seas, from the waters off the coast of Monaco to the ocean around South Africa’ .Even though the tiara wasmade for Charlene to wear at her wedding, the princesswent for a simple head dressfrom her sister in laws collection rather than wearing a tiara. The tiara was sent to display at the Oceanographic museum of Monaco, in an exhibition entitled “The story of the Prince’s wedding. The tiara can be also worn as a necklace, and the princess wore the piece for the first time for her first official Red Cross Ball in 2011.Princess Charlene wore the piece in its tiara form for the Spanish magazine
‘Hola’ in 2014.In 2020, Princess Charlene attended a Gala in Tbilisi, Georgia, wearing the piece as a necklace.Princess Charlene has not been seen wearing the ocean tiara much, but has worn the matching earings on many occasions. In 2021, the princess released
a photo of her on intagram, wearing the ocean tiara to commemorate Prince Albert II
of Monaco Foundation and Princess Charlene of Monaco
Foundation’s annual gala, which she was unable to attend due to health issues.
