QUEEN MARY'S ART DECO EMERALD NECKLACE

This choker originally belonged to Queen Mary, and was made using some emeralds gifted to the Queen by the ladies of india, in 1911.
In 1911, the queen wore the choker to the delhi durbar, along with her cambridge emeralds.
With the help of Garrard, Queen Mary had the original necklace redesigned and shortened to its current state.
Since then she has worn it for many public events and many portraits.
The choker has been designed by the jewellery company Garrard in 1920.
It features 14 emeralds and highquality diamonds set in platinum.
In 1953, the choker was passed down to her grand daughter, Queen Elizabeth ll, but as the Queenis not a big fan of chokers, she was never seen wearing it in public.
In 1980, the Queen gifted thechoker as a life long loan, to her daughter in law, Diana Spencer, when lady Diana married Prince Charles.and the piece became one of the signature pieces of the princess.
During her 1985 tour in Melbourne - Australia,Princess Diana wore the choker as a bandeau in a distinctive 1920 style across her forehead.
The last time Diana, Princess of Wales wore Queen Mary’s Art Deco Emerald Choker was for her 36th Birthday at the Tate Gallery in London in July 1997.
Two months later, following her death, thechoker was returned back to the royal collection, enabling the future Queens and princesses of the british royal family to wear this beautiful piece.
