Backpackers Face Deadly Crocodile in Kakadu

On October 20, 2002, a group of backpackers led by guide Glenn camped at Sandy Billabong in Kakadu National Park. Amid laughter and splashes, 23-year-old Isabelle, sister Valerie, and others ventured into the water. Unbeknownst to them, a massive saltwater crocodile had been observing. Suddenly, the reptile lunged, snatching tourist James and then Isabelle. Panic ensued as the group initially thought it was a prank. The crocodile's power became evident as it dragged Isabelle under. Horror-stricken, the group helplessly witnessed her submerge, ending a night that had started serenely dark.
