Craving sugar? Do THIS instead! | Edukale

Are you craving sugar and looking for a healthy swap?

🍬When you’re dealing with a craving, like candy for instance, it’s not a good idea to try and substitute it with a healthier option. The reason is quite straightforward: when your body and mind are yearning for that specific taste and experience of candy, a piece of fruit doesn’t satisfy the same need.

🍎This isn’t to say that choosing fruit is a bad idea, but in the context of a strong craving, it might not hit the spot. By opting for a healthier alternative, you’re essentially delaying addressing the craving. This delay can sometimes backfire. The craving for the original item doesn’t disappear; instead, it can intensify over time. This intensification can lead to a cycle where the craving grows stronger, and when you eventually give in to it, you might consume more than you originally would have.

🍩When you restrict yourself from eating something you’re craving, it can become all the more appealing. It’s a common psychological response - the more we’re told we can’t have something, the more we want it. So, when you finally decide to indulge in that candy, there’s a risk of overindulgence, simply because it’s been built up in your mind as a ‘forbidden’ pleasure.

🍫While it’s obviously important to make healthy choices, understanding and managing cravings is also key. Sometimes, allowing yourself a small amount of what you’re truly craving can be more effective than trying to replace it with something healthier. This can help with managing cravings more effectively and can prevent the cycle of restriction and overindulgence.
