Disordered eating signs NOT TO IGNORE!
🚩 Signs of disordered eating:

🔢 Obsessively counting calories: Keeping a healthy track of our nutritional intake is one thing, but when vigilance turns into obsession, it’s a concern.

🚫 Fearing certain foods: It’s natural to dislike certain foods, but it’s different when there’s irrational fear or anxiety towards specific food items labeled as « bad ».

🔄 Complicated food rituals: When rituals, such as eating foods in a particular sequence, excessive chewing, or creating patterns on the plate, start dominating the dining table, it’s an issue.

👥 Avoiding social events: When invitations to gatherings or events with food are consistently declined out of fear of facing food and not being in control, it’s isolating and problematic.

💪 Compensatory exercising, purging, or fasting: If eating is consistently followed by compensatory behaviors like extreme workouts, forced vomiting, or prolonged periods without food to « undo » caloric intake, it’s harmful.

🤫 Secrecy around food: Secretive behaviors, such as hiding food, lying about eating habits or patterns, or eating in solitude, often stem from shame or guilt around food and is a big issue.

🚯 Eliminating entire food groups: While allergies or medical conditions may necessitate avoiding certain foods, arbitrarily cutting out entire food groups without a medical reason is a red flag and could lead to nutritional deficiencies.

🎢 Going on new fad diets each month: The allure of quick fixes can lead to a carousel of fad diets, with adherence to a new trend every few weeks or months. This wreaks havoc on both physical and mental health.

⏰ Irregular eating patterns: Eating schedules shouldn’t be chaotic. Frequent skipping of meals, extreme irregularity in meal times, or alternating between overeating and undereating are problematic.

😔 Feeling guilty after eating: Food is a source of nourishment and pleasure. However, if every meal or snack is followed by a wave of guilt and self-reproach, it’s a sign of an unhealthy relationship with food.
