Steamed Hams but it's Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly | Simpsons Cinematic Parody

"Steamed Hams" is the common name for a Simpsons scene officially called "Skinner and the Superintendent." It's pretty much an old commedia dell'arte lazzo where Harlequin ruins the dinner and makes up increasingly dumb lies to conceal his error, the joke always being that the most ludicrous lie is what finally convinces his master of his honesty.

I recently learned about the Steamed Hams meme and had to try my own hand at it. The music is the genre-defining score by @EnnioMorricone for the original The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. You can hear a great quality version of The Trio music at his channel here: https://youtu.be/_gJdT5Vn11w

Of the Steamed Hams parodies I've done, this was by far the most difficult. It has as many small clips as the Rammstein version, but not only did they have to be timed very precisely, but also to do the Trio segment I was working with only about 30 seconds of source footage that had to be extended into a 2 minute sequence (remember the original Steamed Hams is only about 2 and a half minutes long!) Originally I assembled the footage for the full 5 minute Morricone song, but I finally cut it back because it didn't work to have a sequence that was longer than the whole rest of the video. There was also a lot of sound editing to do for this -- I had to make new sound effects for almost the entire kitchen scene after removing the original Simpson music. In fact the sound editing was the hardest part!

I think instead of film school people should just try to edit random things to look like scenes from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. You learn a lot not just about editing but about what kind of shots to film. (Skinner and Chalmers need to stare at the camera more!)
