Backpacking with Grizzly Bears: Yellowstone's Mirror Plateau, Lamar River, Lovely Pass Route

This is a 7 day backpacking trip in Yellowstone National Park, starting and ending at the Lamar River Trailhead. Part of the route is off trail, and requires specific backcountry camping requirements. We go up Specimen Ridge to start, then leave the trail heading south to cross the Mirror Plateau. We camp at Opal Creek one night, then hike past Mirror Lake before camping at the headwaters of Pelican Creek for 2 nights. We do a side trip out to the Fern Lake patrol cabin. A grizzly lumbers into the meadows near camp on night 3, along with a wolf. On day 4 we head down Raven Creek, before bush whacking up to Lovely Pass, and dropping down into the Mist Creek Meadows. I probably will never do Lovely Pass again, no reason to. We encounter 4 grizzlies this day. One in Raven Creek, a very close encounter with a sow and cub (only saw one) at less than 50 feet in very thick downfall and timber. She ran, but only because there was 6 of us, and we all popped out at the same time. She would have killed me if I was solo and that close. Later on, we have a grizzly in camp at Mist Creek, and the bear stays in our camp for the next 2 days. At one point he comes up to our tents, and checks us out. We finish the trip by hiking down Mist Creek to the Lamar River, and out to the trailhead.
