Show Yourself - Jefferson Starship (1978)

"Show Yourself" was released in the winter of 1978 on Jefferson Starship's fifth album, Earth. After a string of new videos from this great album in the last weeks, I wanted to upgrade my old video for probably my favorite song on the album. Wishing all a safe and Happy Independence Day 2020. Enjoy the day....play this song LOUD....remember. And whatever you do....VOTE!!!!! in November. U.S.A. Show Yourself! ;-) Remastered FLAC Audio!

I didn't get time to really get all the video updated as I'd hoped, but I was running out of time to get it finished for this morning and I wanted it ready of course on July 4th. Some of the things are a bit repetitive, and I didn't get a chance to replace some of the cheese (this vid was from my days when I was just keying everything around and using way too much blend transition, but I did work most of the elements to higher resolution and also added new effects....the best thing is that where the old version used an .mp3 for audio, this one features a really nice FLAC version taken from the most dynamic version of the album.

In a year filled with amazing albums (several of my all-time favorite albums came from 1978), Earth was one of the ones that I played the most. It remains by far my favorite thing the band ever did. I remember it being fairly savaged by the critics of the time and checking out a few today, I see that it's not fared any better since it's release and most reviews are still unfortunately pretty critical of it. From Allmusic.com..." has neither the melodies, hooks or style to make a second rewrite of Red Octopus tolerable. Earth has the form, but not the content, of Jefferson Starship's masterpiece -- it just sits there, lacking either hard rockers or sappy ballads. Arguably, it's the group's low point of the '70s." Wow....I couldn't disagree more! Loaded with great melodies, hooks and style....it ROCKS.....and it IS a masterpiece!
[Lyrics]
When I was small I used to stand
With my hand on my heart
And I would sing to you
You were my son and my lover
My father and my brother
I believed in you
It was so easy then

It was so easy then
But where are you now
It seems like you can't hear me anymore
Maybe you're just getting too old

But do you remember
When you were young
How strong you had become
Promising every one you sweet gift of freedom,
Now you know exactly who I am
I seem to tell you all the time
Now tell me some kind of truth about yourself
Your life should be as open as mine
There are children dying for you
That doesn't sound like freedom to me
You keep lyin' about why they're dyin'
When they should be conceived in liberty

Show yourself
Show yourself to me
You're the one that told me
Remember
You told me I was born to be free
Open all your doors I want to see
All your doors and your keys
I want to see I want to hear you
All 88 keys yeah
Oh give it to me
Show yourself
Show yourself to me
I want to see tha stars and the stripes
That can make those things scream

Show yourself
Show yourself to me
Expose yourself I wanna see your face
Come on give it to me
Show yourself
Show yourself to me
Are you rca
Are you standard oil
Are you a.t.&t. I wanna see
Give it to me if you got one
I wanna see come on and show yourself
Who runs this? who runs this country?
Show me
Show yourself
Give it to me
Show yourself to me
I want to know I wanna see
Give it to me show yourself
Show yourself to me
I want you know I wanna see
Give it to me show yourself
Show yourself to me
Who runs it? who runs it around?
Show me show me show your face to me
