Didn't I - Thin Lizzy (1980) HD FLAC Audio

"Didn't I" was released in the fall of 1980 on Thin Lizzy's tenth studio album, Chinatown. I haven't done any Thin Lizzy in too long and need to try and push out a few of the ones I really want to do. This is one of those songs...an obscure album track but such a strong and beautiful song, it needs to be remembered and I'm happy to do my minuscule part to keep it alive.

This video features 192Khz/24 bit FLAC audio sourced from a fantastic vinyl to digital conversion...the sound is really fantastic, even is it's being compressed on Youtube (and one day soon, Youtube might stop compressing audio and play audio in the full resolution it might be uploaded in?...that's the day my channel gets popular! LOL!) Mainly because I'd like to get some of these great vinyl sourced audio behind them, and of course to polish up the video with new effects. Chinatown introduced guitarist Snowy White who would also perform on the next album as well as tour with Thin Lizzy between 1980 and 1982; he replaced Gary Moore as permanent guitarist. White had previously worked with Cliff Richard, Peter Green and Pink Floyd. Chinatown also featured eighteen-year-old Darren Wharton on keyboards, and he joined Thin Lizzy as a permanent member later that year.

Greg Prato of AllMusic described Chinatown as a "letdown" compared to the previous album Black Rose: A Rock Legend, blaming the absence of Gary Moore and producer Tony Visconti, and the drug problems experienced by Phil Lynott and Scott Gorham. Prato praised side one as containing the best material, including the "anthemic" "We Will Be Strong", and the "pop perfection" of "Sweetheart". However, he described side two as "comprised almost entirely of bland filler", although he believed that Chinatown was "not their worst album". Canadian journalist Martin Popoff wrote that "although comprising some spirited tunes, (...) lyrically and thematically the songs seem forced and all too topical" and "the overall level of quality below Lizzy's soulful standards", with Snowy White "more a studied session man" than a new band member.
