Frank Milne plays Five Dance Hits from 1933 on a Steinway Duo-Art.
The prolific Aeolian Corporation piano roll artist Frank Milne plays a medley of five popular dance hits in this April 1933 recording, Duo-Art #74656, heard on a restored 1920 Steinway Duo-Art grand. The selections are 1) "My Cousin in Milwaukee" by George and Ira Gershwin, 2) "Suzanne!" by Al Hoffman and Al Goodhart, 3) "Forty-Second Street" by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, 4) "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" by Isham Jones and Charles Newman, and 5) "Hey!, Young Fella" by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields.
Like many of Milne's later popular rolls, this medley is arranged in strict, constant rhythm for dancing, rather than for singing. This lovely Steinway player piano came to Historic Pianos for restoration as a pile of disassembled and heavily damaged pieces in 2009, with restoration completed about a year later. This video was captured nearly 10 years after that restoration. For more information about restoration of reproducing player pianos, see www.historicpianos.com.
