How to select the #1 thrust washer on the Ford C4/C5 transmission.

There's been a lot of questions on how to select the correct #1 thrust washer on the C4/C5 tranny. Many people believe the #1 is used to set end play like on other transmissions but it's the #2 washer that sets the end play on the C4. The #1 washer is there to reduce the forward and aft movement of the direct drum on the stator support. Remember, the end play needs to be verified with the proper #2 washer before making this test.
