The bears that I've encountered out there! Some of these bears are big - most of them need space!

Back in the 1980's and 1990's I knew that an ambitious wildlife photographer needed to go to Alaska if you ever wanted to get good pictures of wild bears. So I went to Alaska and found that Brooks Camp was the place to be! If you timed your trip in the summer, during a salmon run, the first sight I saw was a waterfall with 7 big bears standing on it! It was absolutely exhilarating! Since then the bears in the Yellowstone area have become more numerous and as you will see - it is very possible to see the bears in the act of being themselves! It speeds up your heart beat to see one of these magnificent beasts - even from 100 yards away! If you see them crossing a meadow, for instance, they have an inexorable stroll and air of authority about them. Every creature and humans gets out of their way!
