112223 TRAIN VS TRUCK RILEY ROAD AT FM 1774

Just before 10 am an 18-wheeler owned by PBR Ranch Services was turning west on Riley Road off FM 1774. As he made his turn a vehicle turned in front of him causing the driver to cut short. As he did the trailer with an excavator on hit hung on the tracks. The driver was unable to free it. He then exited the vehicle and called the railroad with the number listed on the crossing. That is when he spotted the southbound train. The driver made one more attempt to move the truck. With no luck, he jumped out and ran to the shoulder. The conductor on the train spotted the truck and started to brake but it wasn't quick enough as the impact threw the excavator from the trailer and rolled the truck over. This also tore down the crossing sign and arms and ripped the power line connected to them from the pole. DPS and Waller County Sheriff's Office worked on the crash. There were no injuries. The crossing cleared just after 3 pm. A local resident was able to capture the actual crash on video. According to Paden Rollings, the owner of PBR Ranch Services which is just across the road from the scene, the tracks have been an issue for many trucks over the years and the grade was never changed when FM 1774 was built.
