071712 HUNDREDS OF DOGS SEIZED

Constable Hollifield who is over Montgomery County Animal Control assisted by Precinct 4 Constables, Precinct 1 Constables, Harris County Precinct 6 Constables and the United State Humane Society earlier Tuesday served a search warrant on a Dog Rescue on Calvary Road in North Montgomery County. After meeting with the owner and checking the property it was determined that over three hundred dogs needed to be seized. due to conditions they were living in. Almost all of the dogs which many are Pit Bulls are in small crates and cages, all sleeping in urine and feces. Vets are on the scene supervising the removal from at least five buildings on the property. One of those buildings, a two story home houses almost eighty dogs. The dogs are going to be taken to an undisclosed location to be evaluated by vets and then a determination will be made from there as what will happen to the dogs. They are hoping most can be adopted out across the nation. Unlike most seizures in the past in Montgomery County where the SPCA was called in a decision was made to call the United States Humane Society. The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest and most effective animal protection organization, backed by 11 million Americans. When they first arrived the believed there would be close to 100 dogs but after inspection the buildings it was found the number was quite higher. Petsmart donated over two- hundred crates for the operation and are currently attempting to locate almost one hundred more. In addition they donated two pallets of dog food and a pallet of water bowls, Kongs, and Pooper Scoopers. As the dogs started arriving in the holding area Precinct 1 County crews assisted unloading, watering and assembling the Kong chew toys. At 2 am mot even half the dogs were moved yet. Many of the law enforcement officers and the Humane Society workers started their day at 8 a.m. Tuesday. A total of just over three-hundred dogs are being seized. After evaluation the animals must be held until a seizure hearing can take place before a Judge.
