052315 FATAL CRASH I 45 AT LOUETTA

On Saturday, May 23, 2015, Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a Major Motor Vehicle Crash in the 20000 block of Interstate 45, the North Freeway. During the investigation, it was determined that Venancio Cortes Jr was traveling northbound in the 20000 block of Interstate 45 in a silver 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. Cortes Jr failed to drive in a single marked lane and entered into a grassy median. Entering into the median Cortes’ vehicle struck a guardrail in the front center. Complainant Cortes’ vehicle rotated clock-wise during the crash and became disabled in the number 4 lane of traffic facing westbound. While disabling on the roadway, Cortes’ vehicle was struck in the left side by the front distributed of a brown 2005 Dodge Ram. The driver was later released from the scene and a passenger in the Dodge was transported to a local trauma center with unknown injuries. During this crash, Cortes sustained serious bodily injuries, which ultimately caused his death. Cortes had the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his mouth. This case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Division.
