Hosted on October 6, 2022, A Convening on African Wars, and its Militaries in the 21st Century Post-COVID, featured a forum moderated by Dr. Olajumoke Ayandele and Dr. Yvan Y. Ilunga. The event was a critical forum on the ways in which COVID-19 shaped increasing militarization in African states. The participants discussed the militarization of democratic spaces and their disparate impacts on civil societies. They elaborated on the restriction of civil and political liberties. The panelists also engaged in dialogue about the mismanagement of elections and COVID-19 relief funds. Ultimately, they concluded that COVID-19 ushered in a new normal in terms of the relationship between African state governance and the social contract.
