The River that Became a Country: The Gambia

The Gambia is mainland Africa’s smallest country. It is however is shaped unlike any other nation in the world, it's basically a narrow sliver of land on either side of the meandering Gambia river, earning it a reputation of being a river country. Where the river flows, the nation’s international borders follow as the shape of the country simply conforms to the shape of the river. This is how the Gambia River became a country.
