297 - How to See the Face of God Amid Suffering

Guest: Archbishop John Barwa of Orissa State

Orissa, although a beautiful region of untouched forests, plains and mountains is also one of India’s most underdeveloped states. 40% of the population is made up of Tribals and Dalits (the so-called untouchables). The archdiocese of Cuttack includes the district of Kandhamal, the scene of a series of brutal attacks against Christians that took place in August 2008 which saw more than 100 killed and 50,000 displaced and over 4000 homes burnt. The niece of the Archbishop was a victim of the attacks. Archbishop John Barwa of Orissa State tells the story and the situation of Catholics living in fear still today.
