What is lumbar microdiscectomy. 💡
It’s a minimally invasive method of accessing and treating a herniated disc that is putting pressure on the lumbar spinal nerve.
The pressure of herniated disc may cause pain, numbness, weakness, or a combination of these. A series of small dilators are introduced to the herniated disc posteriorly.
Each one slides over the previous one, establishing a small channel to the disc.
Through this operating channel, specialized instruments such as rongers can be used to remove the herniated portion of the disc and seal the ruptured wall of the disc.
With the disc repaired, pressure is relieved from the spinal nerves, which reduces the pain and other symptoms that the patient is experiencing. (Not always reduce the pain & symptoms) 💡
