Alex Ovechkin's 32 Goals In 2013 (HD)

After rediscovering his scoring touch in the second half of 2011-12, Ovechkin began the lockout-shortened 2013 season proving his critics right. It took him 5 games to score his first goal, and 12 to score his first at even strength. It looked like he was back to his old ways. But many of us had seen him return to form after an even worse start the year before. On February 23rd, Ovechkin broke the dam for good. He scored his first hat trick in over 2 years, and his first at home in over 3. Alex Ovechkin was back. He looked more hungry to score than ever. As the season started wearing on, Ovi's totals began piling up. 10 goals in 16 March games and then a career-high-tying 14 in 13 April games. Over his final 23 games, Ovechkin scored 23 goals (and he didn't even score in the last one). By scoring his 30th on April 20th, he became not only the league's lone 30-goal scorer, but also helped keep his personal streak of 30 goals in every season in his career, a streak that is still strong to this day. He finished the season with 32 goals, and not only won his first Rocket Richard trophy since 2008-09 (3rd overall), but also won his 3rd Hart Trophy as league MVP. Ovechkin helped the Capitals win the Southeast Division and clinch a playoff berth after a 5-10-1 start. He even became the first player in NHL history to be named to both the first and second all star teams due to a voting error after new head coach Adam Oates moved him from left to right wing. 2013 was a big year for Alex, for few would ever question again as to whether he was the best sniper in the league.
