Stewart J Cort Arrival in Duluth, MN

It was fun to see the bulk carrier Stewart J. Cort arrive through the Duluth Canal. You'll hear the double salute and echoes beginning near the :17 mark. The Cort is a unique vessel that enters through the Duluth shipping canal quite infrequently. It was the first 1,000 foot vessel on the Great Lakes, making its maiden voyage in 1972. It is the only thousand footer whose pilot house is near the bow instead of the stern, which you'll notice as it makes the turn into the harbor. With a capacity of 58,000 tons, it loaded taconite (iron ore) pellets while in the Twin Ports.
