The Baking Hour: Cake Prank Gone Right? - April Fools' Day Cake

April fools cake seemed like a good idea. We commentary youtubers who bake cakes have ventured into the YouTube prank zone in this installment of The Baking Hour. For April Fools Day this year we decided to bake a cake that looks normal but tastes terrible. A friendly baking prank! This however, turned into a cake baking fail! One can say this is an APRIL FOOLS PRANK GONE WRONG! Or did this elaborate cake prank actually turn out right?

The plan was simple. Find some abnormal ingredients, mix them into a normal cake and pass it off as a new recipe. The goal, make the nasty patty of cakes. Our first official guest, Rafi, kindly agreed to try out the new recipe. Thank you for coming on and playing along!

Starting with a base classic yellow cake mix, we embarked on our nasty journey. The cake needed to look normal, but taste odd. So we shopped for odd ingredients at the local market. A “dash” of garlic paste for that tasty aftertaste! A dollop of tartar sauce. Is dollop a real unit of measure? You guys let us know in the comments! Back to the weirdo ingredients. Peas were added for texture, while tuna was added to keep the cake moist. Last but definitely not-a last, seasoned with the finest of Italian seasonings! For this April Fools Cake, we topped it off with American buttercream this time, as opposed to our usual Swiss Meringue buttercream. But this is a prank cake, so another dollop of mayonnaise was added to the buttercream. With those ingredients combined, it was NASTY CAKE!

Right before your eyes unfolds our cake prank fail. There you see the result of the sugar filled yellow cake mix overpowering the nasty, as well as the effects of Covid on taste.
