Have you ever wondered what the strongest animal on planet earth is? Different animals have different kinds of strength. Some have pure brute strength and can lift, drag, carry, or pull enormous weights. Others may be much smaller yet have immense power compared to their size. From Crocodiles to the animal that can carry a thousand times its own weight, here are some of the ten most powerful animals in the world!
Number 10. Saltwater Crocodile
"Abnormally strong" and "crocodile" are three words that you'd rarely want to be combined in the same sentence, but when it comes to the other creatures that feature on this list, few of them compare to the raw power and sheer ferocity of the legendary saltwater crocodile. Did you know that the most powerful bite ever recorded from a living animal belongs to these terrifying reptiles, and the largest saltwater crocodiles are capable of delivering crushing bites at 16,414 newtons of force? Unbelievably! That's more than three and a half times more powerful than the nearest competitor, the spotted hyena. It's believed that the high bite force is largely attributed to the crocodile's enormous jaw-closing muscles that result in a distinctive snap when applying pressure.
Lolong the crocodile, a colossal reptile captured alive in the small town in the Philippines back in 2012, is the biggest crocodile ever captured. It measured over 20 feet in length. Australians have also caught crocodiles measure 18 feet in length, but no croc is comparable to the great Lolong. Sadly, he died in 2013.
Number 9. Gorillas
Known to be the largest living primates, gorillas have everything humans don't. Brains, climbing ability, and a naturally ripped body. Even though they are herbivorous through and through, they are robust and can outweigh the most professional human fighters. Till now, the heaviest recorded silverback gorilla was found in Ambam, Cameroon. It weighed 586 pounds and was 1.8 meters tall. Gorillas do not show off their muscular strength, which is 15 times more than a professional human wrestler. This strong species weigh up to 200 kilograms and can lift almost 2,000 kilograms, which is ten times their body weight.
Compared to human beings, gorillas' arms are huge, long, and strong, with an arm span of up to about 2.5 meters. Their lifestyle of knuckle-walking and climbing strengthens their arms. When gorillas do get into fights with each other, which are mostly over female gorillas, the fights occasionally result in the death of the weaker gorilla. They may be our cousins, but it's best not to mess with their females!
Number 8. Elephants
Elephants are extremely powerful animals because with their size and strength that varies among other species. The African bush elephant holds the record of being the largest land animal in the world. It has a maximum shoulder height of 12 feet and weighs up to about 12,000 pounds. Also, the closely related Asian elephant has the ability to weigh around 11,000 pounds.
The trunk is the main tactile instrument for Elephants. It consists of nerves, muscles, and blood vessels with minimal amounts of bone and fat. The average Asian elephant has about 100,000 tendons and muscles arranged along the length of the trunk. This allows it to lift almost 800 pounds with relative ease or about the size of a large tree. An elephant's trunk has many potential uses, including touching, feeding, cleaning, arranging objects, and communicating with others. It also can hold approximately two gallons of water at a time.
Number 7. Giraffe
As far as tall creatures go, everyone knows that the giraffe takes the cake by a long shot. Their long tongues and even longer necks are specially adapted to get the sweetest and tastiest leaves at the top of the tallest tree. But did you know that they're also ridiculously strong? They have very strong muscles in their chest and legs that have evolved over thousands of years to help them not fall prey to other predators. A giraffe can grow up to 6 meters in height and weigh as much as 1700 pounds! Even lions will avoid a fully-grown adult giraffe, as their legs are strong enough to kill a lion and even decapitate it if it gets too close.

Number 6. Hippopotamuses
At first look, the hippopotamus may seem like a lumbering, placid, and veggie-munching softy. Still, when disturbed, it is one of the most dangerous creatures in the animal kingdom to exist. Understanding just how dangerous they are necessary to fully appreciate the hippo's sheer size. The average hippopotamus can weigh anywhere between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds! Yes, you heard that right!
