A Summer's Evening
Saturday, 12th August 2023
Venue: Seven Arts
Mohamed Assani is a sitarist and composer, known for his genre-defying approach to music making. Trained in Indian/Pakistani classical music, Western classical music and jazz, his music-making seamlessly draws from different genres and cultures with depth and authenticity.
Mohamed was twice nominated (in 2021 and 2022) as ‘Instrumental Artist of the Year’ for the Western Canadian Music Awards and has brought his sitar to new audiences across the globe through innovative collaborations that have stretched the boundaries of his instrument.
Mohamed will be joining us for a Summer’s Evening during the special celebrations of South Asian Heritage Month 2023, accompanied by extraordinary tabla player Shahbaz Hussain,
for a classical set followed by a contemporary set of soundscapes and live sitar.
South Asian Arts-uk (SAA-uk) is a registered charity that was set up in 1997 by Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE to preserve the art of South Asian classical music and dance. The organisation was designed to pass down its love of the South Asian arts to the next generations through performances, community events and a complex education programme.
