Discovering the sound of the Navtar
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the guitar, sitar, and sarod came together as one to meld their distinct sounds in a memorable evening of music magic? Well wonder no longer.
In this concert, international composer, vocalist, and guitarist Vishnu Ramprasad unveils his remarkable musical invention, Navtar, to Leeds for the very first time. Coming together with internationally acclaimed South Indian percussionist Prathap Ramachandra, the duo will be presenting a unique performance of contemporary and classic Carnatic pieces.
In this evening of discovery stirred by the unfamiliar yet enchanting sounds of Indian Classical and Western melodies floating from the 9-string instrument, be ready for inspiration to spark. You will develop a greater musical awareness while discovering new and exciting possibilities of what the future of music holds and how you can shape it.
South Asian Arts-uk (SAA-uk) is a registered charity that was set up in 1997 by Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE to preserve the art of South Asian classical music and dance. The organisation was designed to pass down its love of the South Asian arts to the next generations through performances, community events and a complex education programme.
