A tsunami hit Japan due to an earthquake near Torishima Island.

A tsunami warning was issued after an earthquake near Torishima Island at 5:25 am. An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 and shallow depth occurred in this area.
The tsunami reached some island areas, where waves of up to 60 centimeters (24 in) were reported. Wave heights of 40 and 30 centimeters were also reported in more distant areas. Several small boats capsized on Hachijo and Kozu islands.
Following the tsunami warning, five coastal towns in Kochi and 12 municipalities in Chiba issued evacuation orders to residents. According to media reports, no significant damage was reported.

30 centimeters at Kozushima in the Izu Islands at 7:12 a.m.
20 centimeters at Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands at 7:07 a.m.

20 centimeters at 7:13 a.m. in Tsubota, Miyakejima,
10 centimeters at 6:57 a.m. at Ako, Miyake Island,
10 centimeters at 7:06 a.m. at Izu Oshima.
