Greece washes into the sea! Flash flood hits Crete.

Greece’s biggest island Crete hit by powerful storm. Storm causing flooding of houses, roads and trapping people in their cars. At least 15 cars have been seen floating in the sea off the coast of Agia Pelagia. Many streets have become rivers carrying away everything in their path.

Meanwhile, on the western side of the island, houses have been flooded in the city of Chania. In Crete’s largest city Iraklio, several roads are flooded and the international airport has closed because of flooded runways. Debris lines the beaches and many houses are now uninhabitable due to the flooding. In the city of Sitia, part of the Lasithi region, people are trapped in a museum.

Natural events such as flash floods are expected to intensify in Greece.
