Bangladesh cyclone adaptation example #shorts #gcse #geography

Bangladesh is a good example to use for how a country can reduce the impact of tropical storms. Nearly 2,000 cyclone shelters have been built there. They are constructed of concrete and have shutters over the windows to protect against high winds and flying debris. They are built on raised ground to avoid storm surges and have stairs for easy access to the building. Outside of storm times, they are used as schools or community or medical centres. The average number of deaths from tropical storms in the country decreased from 500,000 in 1970 to 4,000 in 2010.
