Rolex Batman vs Hulk! - Is The GMT & Submariner An Even Match??

The Rolex Hulk and the Batman have been in an ongoing battle the last couple years. The question still lies on which one will come out on top?

On This video we’re going to be comparing the Rolex Batman vs. Hulk.
The first thing that I would like to say about these superhero themed watches is that I do not come up with the names. That is something that the market and the enthusiast have come up with. What I find interesting is that the last few years they have become very popular and we have seen the demand and prices rise up dramatically. It’s almost as if the Hulk and Batman are neck and neck in the battle for who will reach the top. The question is which one is the best choice or just simply, which one is better?

Rolex Submariner 116610LV “Hulk”
The Hulk is a watch that 5-6 years ago was not an easy seller. I would say that I would sell several regular subs in the time that it would take to sell one green sub. Most of the time guys would come in to see it in person and their girlfriends or wives would say that they do not like it. They simply would say that they don’t like the way that the green looks. Most of the time I would take it out of the display and try it on and that would change their opinion. I would say that back then the Batman was hotter watch in the market. Perhaps the green was a bit too much? Fast forward to today and the green is what makes this watch stand out. Prices for this watch are going crazy. Retail price is $9,350 and it’s one of those watches that if you are lucky, you may get one at retail. Current market prices are $17,000 and up, almost double retail price. I like the green on this watch because it stands out and shows that its not an ordinary Submariner. One of the benefits that I enjoy on the Rolex Submariners over the GMT is the Glidelock Clasp. Another major factor is that it may be discontinued any moment. We have been hearing rumor of this the past 2 years and I feel that any day it will happen, further driving the prices up.

Rolex GMT Master 2 116710BLNR “Batman”
The Batman has always been an easy seller. Something about the black and blue combination that just seems to connect with the people. Interestingly enough some people did not want to pay the extra premium back when the prices were a lot less and the BLNR was just $1,000 more than a standard black ceramic GMT. In todays market it is far from that. Besides the bezel color the GMT has some characteristics that the public seems to like. One example is that the bezel layout is a bit more busy than the sub and people tend to like that. Also the bracelet on the GMT comes with polish center links so that gives it bit more of a “dressy’ feel. On thing that I like is that when you wear the Batman during the day the blue stands out, but during the night the blue blends in with that black. A big factor in this battle is that the 116710BLNR is discontinued. The watch was replaced by the 126710BLNR which is the same watch but on a Jubilee bracelet. They call it the Batgirl. The original Batman had a retail price of a bit under $9,000. In todays market you can pay up to $17,000 for an unworn one.

When comparing both models side by side one can see that the dimensions are very close and alike. The differences are really just (besides the obvious movement differences) are just the polished center links on the GMT and the Glidelock clasp on the Sub. This battle for the consumer would really just boil down to the color. The Batman seems to be a bit for all around. While the Hulk feels to be a bit more sportier. The reality is that there is not a better choice between the Rolex 116610LV and the Rolex 116710BLNR. It just boils down to personal preference. Pretty much just what color combination connects with you the most.

Predicting which one would be the winner long term is hard to call. Both right now are in a full on battle. I would say that so far the Hulk has a tiny bit of a lead, we will have to see what happens when it’s discontinued.
